In 2011 a new edition of the travel time prediction contest has been organized in the Netherlands. In this competition participants are asked to create and run a webservice that makes short term travel time predictions for both cars and trucks.

The typical prediction horizon for these prediction is 0-3 hours.

The setup of the contest is similar to the 2008 edition. Over the course of a week participants are asked to make several thousands of predictions. Several hundreds of these are checked afterwards, either by having the travel time checked by actually undertaking the trip, or by observing the travel time using ANPR camera's and speed loops.

New to the current edition is that travel time forecast have a short prediction horizon. This gives an advantage to participants that are able to feed on-line data into their model. Another new element is that many of the trips follow a path that is not an a freeway. This results in  a greater the importance of collecting data outside the freeway.

There were 4 prizes to be won for the 7 participants that qualified for the contest:
- 1st prize to be won by the participant with the best point estimate;
- 2nd prize to be won by the participant with the second best point estimates;
- 1st "reliability" prize to be won by the participant with the best travel time range estimator;
- 2nd "reliability" prize to be won by the participant with the second best travel time range estimator

Modelit has entered this contest with a modified version of the Tripcast model and won first prizes both in the category "point estimate" and in the category "reliability interval".
